Kai Korven is a composer, songwriter and producer based in the west end of Toronto – since graduating from Sheridan college for music composition he’s been scoring for film, tv and live theatre. This past spring he sound designed and wrote music for an epic play about Greek mythology that premiered at the TMU Chrysalis theatre: “Fire and Frost: Prometheus, Pandora, and the birth of Humankind” by Manic Theatre Co.
Growing up in the east end, he played violin from the age of 3 before branching out and learning piano, bass, drums and guitar. Writing and producing original songs is one of his all time favourite things – he’s been practicing Logic Pro since 2018, after many years of making acapella versions of popular songs on Garageband as a kid.
Recently he aims to release a series of singles alongside his many collaborators, highlighting the voices of his friends, one at a time. In addition to his original works, he has a small studio setup he uses to record for aspiring artists, those with a spark and a song who find the prospect of working at a larger studio more than a little daunting.
Kai finds himself perpetually in a state of exploring different musical genres and worlds – often all at the same time. He’ll jump from writing a classical sounding orchestral score, to an upbeat musical theatre oriented song personifying an inanimate object, to writing a soft, folk reminiscent lullaby, before making a hyperpop/funk song that sounds like it could come from the universe of the TV series “Arcane”. Kai Korven is looking forward to a new year of genre bending exploration, collaboration, and silliness.
