Rogan Mei

Story

Rogan Mei is an Indie Folk artist with roots in Barrie, Ontario and a spirit steeped in the wilds of Northern Canada. His music blends heartfelt storytelling with rugged honesty, drawing from years of lived experience that few artists can claim. At just 12 years old, Rogan began writing as a way to process the emotional weight of his mother’s sudden illness and heart transplant. Influenced early on by the breezy grooves of Jack Johnson and the introspection of John Mayer, he crafts songs that feel like a breath of fresh air—while carrying the depth of someone who’s fought to find peace in chaos.

For seven years, Rogan led a double life as a wildland firefighter and Smokejumper, parachuting into the most remote corners of British Columbia to combat forest fires. During that time, he was mentored by controversial fitness icon David Goggins, whose relentless mindset helped push Rogan toward leaving fire to pursue music full-time. After studying songwriting and production at Seneca College in Toronto, Rogan teamed up with a group of university-trained musicians—including Jacob Diamond, Saint Shepherd, Wes Covey, and cousin Anthony Mei—whose dynamic chemistry brings his stories to life on stage.

Named an Emerging Artist by the Canadian Musicians Cooperative in 2024, Rogan was a featured vocalist in their touring theatre production Showcase, where his original song “Lefroy” was given spotlight treatment at venues like Meaford Hall and Meridian Place. He’s performed as part of Canadian Music Incubator’s Play the Parks series and is now featured in Barns to Beaches, a cross-country show blending original songwriting with classic hits from the 70s to today.

Rogan’s upcoming EP, Dickies Green Plaid Jacket, was recorded in the house he grew up in—temporarily transformed into a studio tucked between fields and forest. The project is a portrait of longing and return: violin solos drift through recollections of lost chances, quiet roads, and the people who leave us marked. Whether he’s headlining venues like Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern or playing stripped-down acoustic shows, Rogan tries not to just play songs—but to build moments. The kind you carry home.
